Racing Practice in Assetto Corsa Competizione
The first thing that players should do before they jump online is practice with the computer. Turn off the driving assists, bump up the difficulty and aggression of the AI drivers, and take on a few races. Racing against AI and real drivers are both major tests of a player’s skill. If the player has spent most of their time in practice sessions, they might not be ready for real races just yet. There is no rush to get to the top. Players should make sure they can get through AI races without too many issues before they begin online challenges.
Expecting the Unexpected in Assetto Corsa Competizione
AI drivers are brutally accurate with their maneuvers. At the end of the day, they are programmed not to crash if they can help it and not to push too many boundaries. Skilled players will be used to using this fact to their advantage without knowing it. Drivers online are harder to predict than the computer-controlled cars. Players should keep their eyes open for unexpected issues and more frequent wrecks depending on the race.
One major difference between real players and AI drivers is that people are often unable to be as careful as they want to be. AI cars will always know where the player is and thus will rarely bump the player on the side. Most players will be using a single monitor set up in their home which prevents them from seeing the left and right sides of the car as they would in a real vehicle. It is easy for players to sneak up behind a car and get slammed on the side during a close overtake maneuver. Players should keep in mind that they aren’t always visible to cars around them.
Overtaking Cars in Assetto Corsa Competizione
Overtaking is the essence of winning a race. Knowing how to properly overtake opponents can be tricky because all of these cars have to run the same track. When there is a tough turn coming up, all of the cars will need to break at roughly the same time. Racers also need to maintain the best racing line possible to maximize their speed. This can cause all cars to remain in a relatively single-file line throughout a good majority of the race.
One rule of thumb is to try to overtake drivers after turns instead of before them. Because of the limited visibility, it isn’t always a good idea to put yourself between a car and the apex of a tough turn. In most cases, this will result in a terrible crash. Overtaking immediately after a turn will give you an opportunity to gun it and get out ahead of your opponent.
Car Maintenance in Assetto Corsa Competizione
During longer races, players will have to pay attention to the functionality of their cars during online races. If realistic settings are being used, cars will use up gas, degrade their tires, and will take full damage during collisions. Racers need to be more careful in this case because mismanaging your car’s health will result in losses.
Having a good Pitstop strategy is essential to completing longer races during online play. Players need to keep in mind that they will definitely lose time during a Pitstop. They should also keep in mind that all the other drivers will need to take them as well, so there should be no sweat. Take a Pitstop in a time where it is most logical to do so. Never wait for the tires to be fully worn out before going to the Pit. Never wait for the fuel gauge to be so low that there is no other option than to refuel.
During Pitstops, players will need to select what options need to be changed. Not all aspects of the car need to be repaired. Pay close attention to the gauges on tire degradation and fuel especially. If the tires don’t need to be changed yet, consider pushing it a bit and getting back out there faster. Remember that everyone will need to repair their vehicles at some point. The winners are the ones who can the best strategy to limit this time as much as possible.
